The Madison College softball team finished the year with a 19-18 record after being eliminated from NJCAA Region 4 post-season play on May 2.
Madison College opened post-season play with a 6-1 victory over Milwaukee Area Technical College on May 1.
The WolfPack scored all six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking advantage of three hits, three walks and two errors by Milwaukee. Lauryn Etienne pitched a complete game victory, allowing just one run on five hits.
Madison College was then shutout by College of Lake County, 3-0, in a game later that day. The WolfPack had only three baserunners in the game on two hits and a walk. Etienne pitched again and held Lake County to five hits, but two of those were home runs.
With the loss, the WolfPack entered the elimination bracket and had to face Milwaukee again. This time Milwaukee took the early lead, scoring four times in the first inning and three times in the third to go up 7-2 on its way to a 9-5 victory over Madison College.
Madison College had several strong performances throughout the season.
Freshman outfielder Cassie Coffey led the team at the plate during the regular season with a .462 batting average. She had 48 hits in 104 at bats, scoring a team-high 27 runs and driving in 16. She had five doubles, seven triples and two home runs.
Fellow freshman Sadie Svendsen led the team in runs batted in with 20 and was second in runs scored with 25. She posted a .375 batting average with 30 hits in 80 trips to the plate. Shelby Brooks hit .249 with 30 hits in 70 at-bats.
Sophomore Lauryn Etienne led the pitchers with a 1.80 earned run average while recording 10 wins and five losses on the season. She had 114 strike outs in 97 innings pitched, allowing just 78 hits and 25 earned runs.

Triton College 3, Madison College 1

Madison College was swept in a doubleheader with Triton College to end the regular season on April 27. The first game was the resumption of a game from April 14 that was suspended due to weather in the seventh inning tied at 1-1. Triton College scored twice in the top of the ninth and held Madison College scoreless to post a 3-1 victory. Etienne pitched will in the loss, striking out nine and only allowing four hits.
Game two saw the WolfPack jump out to a 2-0 lead thanks to some aggressive bases running. But it wouldn’t take long for Triton to respond, when they would score three runs in the third inning and adding insurance late to sweep the WolfPack.
Madison College 5, Moraine Valley 3

The WolfPack softball team split a doubleheader against Moraine Valley Community College on April 26. In game one, Bailey Mester and Shelby Brooks led Madison College to a 5-3 win with three hits each. Etienne pitched a complete game victory, striking out eight batters. Game two was close early, but Moraine Valley Community College broke it open with a seven-run fourth inning to beat Madison College, 9-3.

Madison College won the first game over Black Hawk College, 3-2, on April 25 after scoring three times in the fourth and fifth inning thanks to RBIs from Hayden Schabel and Cathryn Zegadlo. Black Hawk scored its only runs on a two-run home run in the final frame. In game two, Madison College took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning but could not hold of the Black Hawk College offense, allowing seven straight runs in an 11-5 loss in game two.
Madison College 6, Kankakee CC 4

The WolfPack opened its doubleheader against Kankakee Community College on April 24 by scoring the first six runs of the game, then held on for a 6-4 win. Hayden Schabel had three hits and two runs batted in while Kelsey Meverden added two hits and two runs batted in. Gretta Lewis earned her first career save.
Kankakee scored nine unanswered runs in the first five innings to claim a 12-3 win over Madison College in the second game.
DuPage 9, Madison College 8
Despite holding a 7-3 sixth inning lead, Madison College lost to College of DuPage, 9-8, in eight innings on April 21. Bailey Mester, Cathryn Zegadlo, Hayden Schabel and Addie Fritts each had two hits for the game.

In game one, both teams traded momentum until in the bottom of the seventh inning when Madison College’s Cathryn Zegadlo dropped down a bunt that scored Shelby Brooks for a walk off 11-10 victory over Waubonsee on April 19. In game two the WolfPack rallied with eight runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning for a 9-5 victory. Extra base hits from Cathryn Zegadlo, Raegen Schwarz and Aubrey Juga helped power the big inning.
