Three Madison College women’s basketball players and coach Angel Whetstone have received regional recognition for their efforts this past season. The team finished the year 24-6 overall and won its first Region 4 title since 2016, when the team was competing at the Division III level.
Freshman guard Serinity Metcalfe was named the Region 4 Division II District B Player of the Year and also earned a spot on the all-region first team. Sophomore guard Maia Ellis and freshman forward Maddi DeSmet received second team honors.
Whetstone was named the Region 4 Coach of the Year after taking the team to the national tournament in her third year as coach.
Metcalfe led the team with season averages of 20.5 points a game, 3.5 assists, 3.9 steals and 5.3 rebounds. She scored 615 points during the season, the fourth most in a single season in team history. Her 117 steals tied the record of third most in a season.
She is the second player in program history to earn Region 4 Player of the Year honors, joining Rachel Slaney, who won the award in 2016-17.
Ellis led the WolfPack in rebounds with 8.3 a game and averaged 7.6 points, and 3.1 steals. She finished the season with 10 games of double-digit rebounds, including three double-doubles.
DeSmet had season averages of 11.2 points and seven rebounds a game. She tied for the team lead with 25 blocked shots and recorded 26 steals.She registered four double-doubles on the season.
