The Madison College women’s basketball team is off to a strong start this season, having won nine of its first 10 games.
In its latest victory, visiting Madison College rallied from a rare first-half deficit to defeat UW-Whitewater JV, 69-55, on Dec. 6 and post its sixth-straigh win.
Freshman Serinity Metcalfe led the way with a career high 30 points, including converting on six of 11 three-point shots. Sophomore Chloey Bynum added 10 points, while sophomore Dani Latz added eight points.
Defense helped key the victory, with Madison College holding Whitewater to just 3 of 16 shooting in the fourth quarter, when the WolfPack outscored the Warhawks, 21-9.
Metcalfe and Latz have been the team’s top scorers in the early part of the season. Three nine games, Metcalfe averaged 16.9 points a game, while Latz averaged 13.9. Maia Ellis and Latz are the team’s top rebounders, with Ellis averaging 7.9 a game and Latz grabbing 7.8 a game.
The team has three games remaining before the holiday break, playing UW-Whitewater JV on Dec. 6, Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Dec. 10 and hosting Loras College JV on Dec. 12.
Madison College 74, Clarke University JV 46
A fast start paved the way to an easy victory for Madison College against Clarke University JV. The WolfPack raced out to a 46-18 first half lead and never looked back, posting a 74-46 victory.
Freshman Serinity Metcalfe led the way with 22 points, her third game in the last five outings scoring 20 or more points. Fellow freshman Maddi DeSmet had 12 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
Jamera Green and Dani Latz also scored in double figures. Green scored 11 points, including two three-pointers, and had four steals. Latz contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
Madison College 64, College of Lake County 62
Serinity Metcalfe scored 16 points and hit the game-winning basket with 47 seconds left to lift visiting Madison College over the College of Lake County, 64-62, on Nov. 25.
Two other WolfPack players joined Metcalfe in double-figure scoring. Keelyn Zwirschitz finished with 16 points and six rebounds, while Dani Latz added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Madison College trailed, 32-31, at halftime but rallied to take a 10 point lead early in the fourth quarter. Lake County, the defending Region 4 champion, battled back to tie the game late in the quarter.
Madison College 82, Harper College 46
Madison College outscored visiting Harper College, 20-1, in the first quarter to take a commanding lead in its 82-46 victory on Nov. 22.
Three players scored in double figures for the WolfPack, led by Metcalfe’s 20 points. She also added a career-best seven steals, five assists and five rebounds. Bynum scored a career-high 13 points, while Latz added 10 points.
Madison College 75, Waubonsee Community College 55
A pair of double-doubles by Dani Latz and Maia Ellis led Madison College to a 75-55 victory over Waubonsee Community College at home on Nov. 19. Latz and Ellis both came through with 10 or more points and 10 or more rebounds.
Latz finished the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Ellis scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. Madison College dominated the glass, out-rebounding Waubonsee, 49-31. The WolfPack scored 22 second-chance points in the game.
Madison College 87, Carl Sandburg College 58
Serinity Metcalfe and Dani Latz combined to score 53 points and lead visiting Madison College to an 87-58 victory over Carl Sandburg College on Nov. 15.
Metcalfe scored a career-high 29 points and added seven rebounds and three steals. Latz had 24 points and team-high eight rebounds. Nine WolfPack players scored in the game.
Iowa Central Community College 46, Madison College 43
Madison College suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Iowa Central Community College, 46-43, at home on Nov. 13. Iowa Central held Madison College to seven points in the final quarter, going on an 8-1 run to close the game and claim the win.
Metcalfe was the only player in double figures for the WolfPack, scoring 14 points.
