Madison College celebrated its student leaders for their hard work, creativity, leadership, community spirit and academic achievements during the annual Student Success Awards Program on Tuesday, April 21.
The event was organized by the Student Life Office and featured students Idman Dua, Litzy Lara Uribe, Sofia Baucis, Correy Matthew Sterzel and Rahma Mohamed as the award presenters.
Five students received the Karen Roberts Student Life Leadership Award, which recognizes the top student leaders at Madison College. The award is named after former Director of Student Life Karen Roberts, who helped shape Student Life at Madison College for 31 years.
The recipients were: Furkan Sindar, Barbara Gray, Jack Ramos, Hassan Hashmi and Quinn Mattsson.
Outstanding Student Organization of the Year was the Student Senate, while the Outstanding Student Club of the Year was the Muslim Student Association.

Outstanding Student Employee of the Year: Gerlene Ross Zamoras, Henry Creedy, Meutya Hakim.
Devi Bhargava Award: Trina Seger.
Student Life Leadership Certificate: Hassan Hasmi.
Volunteer Service Awards: Bronze level – Jay James, Barbara Gray, Hassan Hashmi; Platinum level – Donna McCarter, Ruiqi Zeng.
Student Senate Merit Award: Furkan Sindar, Ashley Larsen.
Student Life Ambassadors: Sofia Baucis, Zainab Ali, Ash Rogers.
Outstanding Student Group, Academic Achievement: 10 members or less, Volunteer Center; 11 or more members, Student Occupational Therapy Association.
Outstanding Student Group, Community Service: Dental Hygiene Club.
Outstanding Student Group, Collaboration Award: Future Health Care Professionals and Peer Health Educators.
Outstanding Club Advisor of the Year: Ra’shi Common.
Outstanding Club Officer of the Year: Caleb Yang from the Asian American Student Association; Lydia Mertz from the Student Nurses Association-Watertown.
Outstanding Student Organization of the Year: Student Senate.
Outstanding Student Club of the Year: Muslim Student Association.
Library Research Award: Nick Peterson.
Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award: Lynea LaVoy, Joanne Dischler and Karen Wilson.
Outstanding Tutor of the Year: Mars Thornsen, Joseph Obcena, Megan Wallen and Besarb Rushiti.
