New shows and old classics come to Netflix

As the leaves turn red, the windows frost over and pumpkin flavor is injected into all things edible, it seems like the perfect time to curl up under a cozy blanket with some hot apple cider and watch Netflix.

To get you pumped for those days, here is a run down of some of the new shows and movies to look forward to.

On Oct. 1 an influx of fantastic old classics will become available, such as the edgy 1996 version of “Romeo + Juliet” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, one of the most classic love stories of all time: “Sleepless in Seattle” with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, “Galaxy Quest,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and the original “Annie” (undoubtedly the only version worth watching, with the runaway cast including Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan and Edward Herrmann as FDR).

If you prefer newer films, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will be available on Oct. 22 just in time to watch before the third installment of the series, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” is released in theatres in November. If you’re looking for something to give you goose bumps on Halloween night, the newest rendition of Stephen King’s “Carrie” will be available as well.

TV show fans can rejoice as Netflix will offer the second season of “Arrow,” the sixth season of “Sons of Anarchy,” the third season of “Hart of Dixie,” the ninth season of “Supernatural” and the fifth season of “The Vampire Diaries.”

Arguably the most highly anticipated addition to the Netflix archive is “Gilmore Girls: The Complete Series.” Once announced, this news set the internet on fire and dozens of excited articles popped up everywhere from BuzzFeed to The Washington Post.

The quirky and quick-witted show created by Amy Sherman-Palladino may have ended its run with the WB in 2007, but the effect that the show’s dynamic and sarcastic characters, snappy cultural references, and brilliant, warm-hearted story lines had on all of its fans seems to have lingered far beyond the series finale.

If you enjoy dry humor, indie music, a good cup of coffee, or would like to be exposed to the most unforgettable small town in the history of television, I highly recommend taking a look at this show.

Suffice it to say, with all of these incredible titles on the way, we should all stock up on apple cider.
