Public Safety

Public+Safety

Sgt. Joe Steffen & Dispatcher David Manthey

Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we communicate our activities to the college community. Here are some of the notable incidents from the past couple weeks.

On Nov. 28, Public Safety Officers responded to a report of a female being struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk of Hoffman Street and Anderson Street. The operator of the vehicle fled the scene.  Officers rendered aid to the female, who sustained injuries, until Madison Paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital. The Madison Police Department later apprehended the suspect driver.

On Nov. 28, Public Safety received a weapons violation complaint for a man on campus who was attempting to sell drugs and weapons. Officers confronted the individual along with the Madison Police Department. Drug paraphernalia was confiscated from the suspect. The suspect was then arrested and transported to the Dane County Jail by the Madison Police Department on multiple drug charges.

On Nov. 29, officers were dispatched to the Health Education Building for an unknown problem. Officers quickly located a man who was suffering from a life threatening medical emergency. Public Safety Officers rendered aid to the man until Madison Paramedics arrived, who subsequently transported the man to a local hospital for further evaluation.

On Dec. 1, Public Safety received multiple complaints for several vehicles that appeared to have been burglarized in the student parking lots. The vehicles in question were reported to have broken windows and items missing from them. The Madison Police are currently investigating this incident. The owners of all vehicles have been notified. We would like to remind everyone to keep their valuables out of plain sight and not to park overnight on campus. Please call Public Safety at 608-246-6932 for more information related to parking on campus.
