CLARION STAFF REPORT

Four members of The Clarion staff attended the Associated Collegiate Press National College Media Convention held Oct. 20-23 in Washington, D.C., earning both Pacemaker and Best of Show awards.

The Clarion received five awards at the conference and the Yahara Journal received one. Here’s the list of awards the groups received:

  • Second place – Best of show, two-year college newspapers.
  • Third place – Best of show, newspaper special editions.
  • Sixth place – Best of show, multimedia package.
  • Seventh place – Pacemaker Award in Display Advertising, Kristina Karlen.
  • Eighth place – Pacemaker Award in Page One Design, Robin Gee.
  • Eighth place – Best of show, literary magazine, Yahara Journal.

In all but one of these categories (best of show, two-year college newspapers), The Clarion and Yahara Journal competed against both two-year and four-year colleges.

The conference had possibly its best line up of speakers in years – Interim Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazil, The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward, and whistleblower Edward Snowden.

More than 1,300 students from more than 200 colleges and universities were at the convention this year.
