Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we communicate our activities to the college community. Here are some of the notable incidents from the past couple weeks.

On Sept. 16, officers responded to a student with severe back pain.  Officers rendered aid until City of Madison Paramedics arrived.

On Sept. 19, officers responded to a strong-armed robbery where a backpack was forcefully taken from a person at the Downtown Campus.  Public Safety Officers and Madison Police Department officers responded and the suspect was not located. Investigation is ongoing.

On Sept. 27, officers responded to a subject yelling belligerently and confronting other students. Officers made contact with the suspect and he was escorted off of the campus and warned for trespassing.

Public Safety Update

Madison College Public Safety officers are now carrying NARCAN to combat the effects of a drug overdose.

NARCAN is a safe prescription medication that will temporarily stop the effects of an opioid-induced narcotic, whether it was intentional or not.  It counteracts the opioid by strongly attaching to the same brain receptors. NARCAN takes over the receptors and essentially blocks the opioid receptors.

It is important that Public Safety Officers are able to administer it immediately because NARCAN increases the victim’s chances of recovering, or at least buys them some time until emergency medical services personnel arrives.

All officers carrying NARCAN have received the proper training through EMS staff at the college
