Conference title hopes still alive for Madison College men’s soccer

The Madison College men’s soccer team defeated Elgin Community College, 4-0, on Oct. 1.
The first goal was scored in the 23rd minute by Gabe Voung and assisted by Evan Thom. Voung would also assist Dominick Ramirez’s goal in the 54th minute. Voung would score his second just one minute after.
Elgin played the final 32 minutes of the match with 10 men due to Jimmy Hernandez being sent off.
Caeben Schomber would finish off the scoring with a goal in the 89th minute. Goalkeeper Phil McCloskey saved five shots in his fifth clean sheet of the season.
After the match, Coach Tim Bruner said that the team had good patience and played within their principles. Bruner said that Voung impressed him because he did a good job at converting chances.
Bruner also said that Richie Lima impressed him because he had good individual moments with the ball.
When asked about what the team needs to work on, Bruner said, “We certainly have a good test next week against Harper College. They beat us 3-0 last time. We have a chance to win the conference championship as well.”
Madison College now stands at 10-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play, after beating Harper College, 2-0, on Oct. 5.
The WolfPack’s hopes for a conference title comes down to their match against Joliet Junior College at home on Oct. 12. A win would bring them their first North Central Community College title since 2016.

Madison College 6, Milwaukee Area Technical College 1
A scoring outburst in the first half led Madison College to a 6-1 victory over host Milwaukee Area Technical College on Sept. 28. The WolfPack scored five goals over the span of eight minutes, opening with Evan Thom’s goal 25 minutes into the match.
Voung then scored twice, followed by goals from Caeben Schomber and Adair Tlato. Sam Johnson then added a second-half goal to close out the scoring for the WolfPack.

Madison College 2, Harper College 0
Madison College put itself in position to win a conference title by beating Harper College, 2-0, at home on Oct. 5, avenging an earlier-season loss.
The WolfPack took the lead 15 minutes into the match when Schomber scored his eighth goal of the season, this one off a pass from Evan Thom.
The only other goal came late in the second half, when Voung scored off a pass from Tomas Garcia. It was Voung’s 16th goal of the season.

College of DuPage 3, Madison College 2
Two second-half goals lifted College of DuPage over Madison College, 3-2, on Oct. 8. Voung scored seconds before the end of the first half to give the WolfPack a 2-1 lead, but DuPage rallied in the second half.
