The Madison College Athletics Department held its annual Student Athlete Awards Banquet on April 25, where athletes from the college’s teams were introduced and honored.

Two student athletes received special recognition as Madison College Sports People of the Year – softball player Riley Landenberger and men’s basketball player Tyree Young.

Landenberger plays both in the infield and pitches for the softball team. In her first season with the team, she earned academic all-conference and second team academic all-American honors. In 2017, she had an 8-1 record as a pitcher with a 2.36 ERA and batted .357.

This season, Landenberger has only played in 15 games due to an injury, but she is still guiding and cheering on her team as team captain. She has a 7-2 record this season and was hitting .400 before her injury.

Young played guard for the WolfPack men’s basketball team. In his first season, he earned N4C academic all-conference honors. During the past season, he scored 511 points to finish with 900 points in his career, good for ninth in program history.

Young was named first team all-conference and first team all-region this past season and won academic all-conference honors for the second time.
