Over the winter break Madison College Performing Arts sponsored 15 students to attend the regional Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in Indianapolis. While there they competed, performed, watched shows from other colleges, and participated in workshops.

Student Elliott Puckette won recognition in two competition categories. She won the Institute of Theater Journalism and Advocacy Award, and her team received an honorable mention for their work in the Design Storm competition.

The Institute of Theater Journalism and Advocacy was a three-day writing workshop for theater criticism. Puckette will have to opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. to compete at the national festival.

Design Storm had students from a range of schools team up to create a cohesive design for a hypothetical production. Puckette’s team designed for William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” with Puckette serving as dramaturg, or historian/play expert.

In addition, former Madison College student Nick Kaprelian competed in the Irene Ryan Scholarship acting competition, and students Cody Laper and Reginald Kellum performed in a short play and staged reading while at the festival.
