Public Safety

Public+Safety

Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we communicate our activities to the college community.  Here are some of the notable incidents from the past couple weeks.

On Oct. 20, Public Safety responded to the visitor gated parking lot where a visitor had struck another visitors unoccupied vehicle. Public Safety arrived on scene to assess the damage and check for any injuries. The driver reported no injuries and provided her contact information to the officer. The officer on scene observed damage to the unoccupied vehicle’s front driver side fender. The officer was able to exchange contact information between the two owners and provided them with guidance on how to proceed with their insurance companies.

On Oct. 17, a Public Safety officer on patrol could hear an alarm coming from an elevator at the Downtown Campus. The officer was able to make verbal contact with a female who was stuck inside the elevator on basement level. Public Safety contacted Madison Fire Department to respond to assist the female out of the elevator. Madison Fire Department Ladder 1 arrived shortly after and shut the power off to the elevator before using a tool to open the door to the elevator. The female was removed from the elevator and reported no injuries. Public Safety placed the elevator out of order and contacted maintenance staff.

On Oct. 12, a student arrived at the Public Safety office to report his cell phone stolen. Officers interviewed the student who believed his cell phone was taken somewhere near the gym at the Truax Campus while he left to use the restroom. Public Safety officers assisted the student with checking the area and calling the students phone. It appeared whoever was in possession of the phone, turned it off. Officers reviewed surveillance footage but were unable to locate anyone with the students phone. The student later updated officers that an unknown person located his phone and was able to return it.
