Sgt. Joe Steffen, Dispatcher David Manthey, Crime Prevention Team

Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we communicate our activities to the college community.  Here are some of the notable incidents from the past couple of  weeks.

On Aug. 27, officers found a man unconscious on the Dayton Street side of the Downtown Campus. Officers provided first aid assistance to the man until the Madison Fire Department arrived to further evaluate him. Alcohol intoxication appeared to be a factor. The man was released to the care of the Madison Fire Department.

On Aug. 30, a student reported a hit and run in Student Parking Lot A. The suspect vehicle hit a parked car, causing a moderate amount of damage and then fled the scene.  On Wednesday, Aug. 31, a bike patrol officer located and made contact with the suspect in the student lot. The suspect admitted to hitting the parked vehicle. Charges have been referred to the Madison Police Department. If you witness a hit and run, or vehicle crash, please contact Public Safety immediately.

On Aug. 31, officers responded to what appeared to be a disturbance between a man and woman in Student Parking Lot E. Officers immediately separated both parties, and it was determined the female was having a medical emergency. Shortly after the incident, the woman was taken to the hospital for a medical issue.

On Aug. 31, officers received a harassment complaint from a female student. The student reported that a male had followed her to her workplace on campus and asked her several times to go on dates after she told him no. The suspect male had also followed her to class. Public Safety is currently investigating this incident. If you feel you are a victim of harassment or threatening behavior, please contact Public Safety immediately.

Public Safety Update

The fall semester has begun. We understand finding a place to park can be difficult during the first weeks of class. We want you to know there are other options available to you.  There are student overflow parking lots located off Straubel Street that often have several open spaces. Whichever lot you choose, please remember to park in a marked stall at all times. To thank students who utilized the lot the first week of classes. Public Safety Officers gave Freezie Pops to students in the overflow lot.

In addition to our Facebook page, we have a Twitter account!  Be sure to follow @PublicSafetyMC to stay informed of what’s happening on your campus.
