Public Safety report for Feb. 17, 2016

Sgt. Joe Steffen, Public Safety Officer

Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we communicate our activities to the college community.  Here are some of the notable incidents from this past month.

On Feb. 6,  Public Safety responded to a fire in the Truax concessions stand area.  It was determined that the fire started from a popcorn machine.  Madison College staff along with the Madison Fire Department quickly contained the fire and there were no injuries.

On Feb. 8, Public Safety Officers were called to a domestic dispute between a male and female.  The dispute stemmed from prior domestic violence.  The Monona Police Department is investigating the prior incident(s).  Madison College Public Safety has resources available to you or someone you know that may be a victim of domestic violence.

On Feb. 9, Public Safety was called to the downtown campus reference a theft of a cell phone that happened the day before.  The owner of the phone had been in contact with the suspect.  The suspect had arranged a time to meet the victim to give back the stolen phone, but did not show up to meet.  If you are a victim of theft, do not negotiate terms of retrieving your property with the suspect.  Report theft immediately.
