Midterm mania help found in the library

Kris Glodoski Wolf

It is official, autumn is here and the fall semester is in full-swing at Madison College. Fall on any of our campuses is lovely: the weather cools, we break out our sweaters and hats, and find ourselves surrounded by all-things-pumpkin.

Of course, October on-campus also means that midterms are right around the corner. So while you settle into the semester with study guides, to-do lists, and a mug of hot apple cider, don’t forget all the amazing resources available to you at the Madison College Libraries to get you through the midterm mania!

In addition to our diverse student support services, the Madison College Libraries will be providing fun events and festive, Halloween-inspired, displays during the week of October 25-31, including:

Wednesday, October 28:
We’re calling it “HalloWednesday”! Treat yourself to some candy at the library while you study. Don’t be surprised if you find a library staff member dressed in the spirit of Halloween (or in costumes complimenting Truax library’s Edgar Allen Poe display).

Thursday, October 29:
Dogs in the Library, back by popular demand! Take a break from studying to visit the wonderful therapy dogs of Dogs on Call. The pups will be in the Truax campus library (A3000) between 1:00-2:30 PM.

Friday, October 30:
We will show a “Halloween favorite” on the screen in the Truax Library Commons area all day.

A few ways we can support you during midterms:

Need help digging deeper into a topic for a paper or presentation? Check-out any of our 140+ research guides, developed especially for you by your librarians, available on the library website at: http://libguides.madisoncollege.edu. These guides cover a wide range of subjects, including: course-specific subject guides (for example, pages tailored to an English or History class), citation help, and help online with library education and research (a.k.a. HOWLER tutorials). We also have a guide with resources to help you improve study skills!

Need a reliable place to get work done? Whether you are studying for an exam, working on a group project, or writing that first big paper, the libraries offer a variety of spaces to match your study needs. Each one of our libraries offers comfortable seating options, individual study carrels, and tables to spread out and get into assignment completion-mode. A number of our locations (including our Student Achievement Center location at Truax) also offer group study rooms – available to reserve up to 2 weeks in advance online – perfect for collaborating with classmates.

Need computers? We have LOTS of them – with access to a variety of class-related programs and Microsoft Office software! We pride ourselves in supporting you through Student Computer Help (608-243-4444), so do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions about student technology needs.
The Madison College Libraries are here to help you during the midterm mania, so if you have questions or simply need reference and resource support – never fear, we are here!
