What’s happening?

Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we communicate our activities to the college community.  Here are some of the notable incidents from this past month.

On Aug. 6, officers on patrol at the West Campus observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the lot at 1 a.m. Officers made contact with the owner who was sleeping in the backseat of the van. After further investigating, it was determined the owner was not a current student at Madison College and was provided with alternative options by the officers on where to stay for the rest of the night.

On Sept. 4, officers investigated a vandalism complaint by a student after receiving a parking citation. Public Safety Officers interviewed the student, and as a result of the interview, the Dean of Students suspended the student from the college pending review.

On Sept. 6, officer’s patrolling the Downtown Campus made contact with two females on the patio. Officer’s confiscated a glass smoking device and a small amount of marijuana from one of the females. Both females were not Madison College students and removed from campus.

Campus safety tip of the month

Parking can be quite chaotic this time of year, however, we urge students to be patient as it will clear up as time goes on. Consider utilizing your Metro bus pass, carpooling or bicycling to the college. Parking out of a marked stall may result in a citation or a tow. Moreso, several vehicles crashed the first day of school as a result of vehicles illegally parked.
