Off the Shelf: Regional campus libraries

Kris Glodoski Wolf, Librarian

As you may have heard, the Madison College Libraries have a lot to offer students, staff, and faculty; it is our priority to make the seven library locations throughout the Madison metro and regional campuses ideal places to pursue your professional potential and grow academically.  Our friendly librarians are happy to provide you with superb research and information services, a plethora of technology resources, and reliable study spaces when the semester gets hectic.  That in mind, I want to take some time to tell you a little more about our regional campus libraries in Fort, Portage, Reedsburg, and Watertown.

You may already know the basics – you can get most library items delivered to your preferred campus library (for example, a Truax book can be sent to the Portage campus); you can access our databases and online/computer resources anytime with your Madison College username and password (on/off-campus); and you can reliably find either a quiet study space or a collaborative workspace inside our doors … but what else is available outside the Madison metro-area?

Need a group study space? The reservable study rooms are not limited to our Madison locations… you can book a room online – from your computer or mobile device – at the Fort, Reedsburg, and Watertown campus library locations up to two weeks in advance.

Need to prepare for an exam?  Need some academic/career advice? You can find Test Prep and Career Resources at all of our regional libraries.  Ask a librarian about access to the LearningExpress Library and get started on practice tests for the COMPASS, GED, or TEAS exams.  We can also show you how to use the Associates Programs Source Plus database or connect you with local academic advisors.

Interested in, or already immersed in, the Nursing and Allied Health program? The Reedsburg Campus Library offers tailored resources on its website to help you access what you need as quickly as possible.  In its resource guide you will find access to nursing career information and job links, hand-picked library databases and relevant library guides, and a comprehensive list of current nursing periodicals subscribed to by the library.

Speaking of health-related resources, would you find it useful to look at a medical model to study for your Anatomy and Physiology exams? The Portage Campus Library now has a variety of medical models available for in-library use, as well as group study tables so you do not have to learn alone.

Questions about any of our regional (or metro) resources? Ask a librarian, anywhere!  The Madison College Libraries strive to provide consistent service across all of our campus locations, which is why no matter where you are – in Madison, Fort, Portage, Reedsburg or Watertown – you can contact a librarian to get answers to your specific reference and research questions as fast as possible.  Librarians are available on-campus at all of the regional campuses, and when not on-desk, a librarian can be reached in a variety of ways, including: over the phone; via e-mail, chat, Skype (by appointment), or text messaging.
