Sponsors needed for Santa’s Wish List

The Madison College Santa’s Wish List program needs sponsors to help spread cheer this holiday season. The program helps low income Madison College students provide gifts for their children. The Volunteer Center wants to make sure every child has something to open on Christmas morning.

Last year, Santa’s Wish List was able to provide gifts to 307 children. So far this year the program has 320 children signed up, but they are lacking sponsors. As of Nov. 17 there were 257 children left to sponsor.

Cris Rockwell, the program coordinator, is asking for help from the student body and anyone else to help make Santa’s Wish List a huge success again this year. In her first year running the program Rockwell said it meant a lot to read all of the emails from families who said how much this programs helps them.

“Currently we need lots of sponsors. We have 68 sponsors right now and we have 320 children total,” said Rockwell. “We need people to come in to the student life office to get a tag and go purchase a gift. People can also purchase a gift and drop it off unwrapped. They can also donate money and we can buy a gift.”

Gifts are no more than $25 per child and are tax exempt and deductible. All gifts and donations must be dropped off to the Student Life Office no later than Dec. 1 by 4 p.m.

Rockwell also said that Santa’s Wish List needs volunteers to help get the word out, to help find sponsors at all campuses and for Santa’s Secret Schoppe on Dec. 3.

“We will be having a shopping night for all of the children without sponsors,” said Rockwell, “We will purchase gifts for them, up to what our budget can cover.”

Gifts are picked up on Dec. 6, 10 am-2 pm, in room C1423B at the Truax Campus. Volunteers are needed to help wrap gifts and serve snacks.
