Public Safety report for Oct. 15

Sgt. Joe Steffen, Public Safety

Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we like to communicate our activities to the college community.  Here are some of the notable incidents from this past month.

On Oct. 1, while on patrol, a Public Safety Officer at Madison College’s Truax campus observed a male man restraining a woman who was trying to leave during an argument.  The Officer separated both parties and after investigation asked the man to leave campus for the day.  The woman remained with the Officer, who then facilitated her safe exit from the scene.

On Sept. 29, Public Safety Officers rendered aid to a patient having a seizure in the Truax Library.  Madison Paramedics arrived and transported the patient to a local hospital.

On Oct. 6, Public Safety Officers responded to a theft of 3 laptops from a classroom at the Truax Campus.  Public Safety is investigating the theft.  Any pertinent information concerning this crime may be delivered in person or via phone to the Public Safety office at Truax room B1240, 608-246-6932, Monday-Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., or emailed to [email protected].

Campus Safety Tips

Public Safety has been taking a higher than usual number of calls for service related to stalking and dating violence-related behavior recently.  If you feel unsafe at any time or know of someone you feel is in an unsafe situation, please call the Public Safety Department— we offer escorts to vehicles on campus and will investigate any security or safety-related complaint.

Please be conscious of your surroundings, walk in pairs or groups and to have Public Safety’s emergency phone number (608) 245-2222 saved in your phone or download the Madison College App.

If you have any information regarding the above incidents or other campus safety concerns, please contact our department at 245-2222; Public Safety Officers are available 24/7.
