‘Dreamlight Valley’: The new ‘Stardew Valley’

Lillian Coppelman, Editor in Chief

Have you ever wanted to catch fish with Donald Duck and Goofy? Make a garden with Wall-E and Mickey Mouse? Cast spells with Merlin and Ursula? Well, Disney’s “Dreamlight Valley” has all that and more. With the rise in popularity of games such as “Stardew Valley” and “Animal Crossing,” it is not surprising that Disney would want to get a piece of that action.
“Dreamlight Valley” shares several similarities from those games that can give the player a sense of familiarity. With farming, fishing, building a community, befriending different characters and completing quests, there are plenty of things for the player to do.
Players are able to create their own character and interact with beloved icons from several different Disney movies. Players are able to grow and forage for ingredients to make meals with Remy from “Ratatouille” or sell them for coin to invest in Scrooge McDuck’s business. It is left up to the player to decide what they want to do. “Dreamlight Valley” lets players get creative by allowing them to build and decorate the valley however they see fit.
The character customization is amazing, with different body types, skin and hair colors, hair styles and clothing options. It gives the player room to make a character that represents them. Plus there is an option to create custom clothes, which allows players to get creative and express themselves.
Players are able to complete questlines to befriend beloved Disney characters. Players can invite characters to “hang out” and complete tasks around the village or give characters gifts to increase friendship. The higher the friendship, the more that friend can help the player around the valley.
“Dreamlight Valley” lets the player choose what attribute each friend can contribute to; fishing, foraging, digging, mining and gardening are all options available to choose from.
Each time a character’s friendship level increases, the trait that the player chose will increase as well.
“Dreamlight Valley” is currently in Early Access and does not have a set release date, but despite that it still is a great game for people to play. It’s a game that is cute and relaxing that allows its players to let their creative juices flow.
