Fall Out Boy still one of my favorite bands

Mandy Scheuer, Arts Editor

Ever since the first album “Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out with Your Girlfriend” came out, fans around the world have fallen in love with Fall Out Boy. This band is composed of Pete Wentz, Patrick Stumph, Andy Hurley, Joe Trohman, Mike Pareskuwicz, Brandon Hamm, Ben Rose, T.J. “Raccine” Kunasch. Pete plays bass guitar, Patrick is the lead guitarist, Andy is drums, Joe, Brandon and T.J. are guitars, and Mike is the drum kit.

I can remember the first song I ever heard by Fall Out Boy was “Sugar We’re Going Down”, and I could not get enough so I had to buy that full album, “From Under the Cork Tree” that came out in 2005. That was 14 years ago.

At that time, I was jamming out to Fall Out Boy, (or FoB abbreviated), while using my iPod Nano. My sister quickly figured out that I love FoB, so she scored tickets to see them with me and my mom. All three of us saw FoB the summer of 2014 at Tinley Park in Chicago. They played songs from their newer album, “Save Rock and Roll.”

When Fall Out Boy came onto the stage, I remember how loud the fans’ screaming was. My favorite song they played was “Light ‘Em Up.” The stage was brightly lit, people were using their iPhones for flashlights, and fireworks going off after the concert.

People were singing along to some of their songs. One of the lyrics to “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” is “we’re going down, down in an earlier round, and Sugar, we’re goin down swinging.” I recall people singing along to those lyrics, and I sang along also, because I know most of their songs inside and out.I remember smelling lots of beer because it was being sold before, after, and during the concert. There were a couple of drunk people there, and my mom told me to stay away from them, since drunk people make dumb decisions.

Once FoB played their final song, there were streamers being shot from cannons. I remember myself reaching out to grab the streamers as they were falling from the cannons. I thought, “Wow! I didn’t expect for there to be streamers, but if I grab one, I’ll keep it forever!” I had that streamer for a long time.

Before my mom, sister and I walked back to our hotel we were staying at, my sister bought me a t-shirt that had the tour name on it. I occasionally wear that t-shirt underneath my sweatshirts.

Their newest album, “Lake Effect Kid”, debuted in 2018. You can read all about the new album here: https://fanlink.to/FallOutBoy.
