A few months back a new — and rather unique — movie theater arrived on the east side of Madison. Attached to East Towne Mall between the former Boston Store and Dick’s Sporting Goods, Flix Brewhouse boasts of a truly Wisconsin movie viewing experience.

Each cinema has several rows with pull-up tables for a more convenient eating experience with every seat. The chairs are also rather comfy, and there is enough elevation between each row to prevent people in the the rows ahead blocking the screen.

As for Flix’s food venue, they offer a variety of handmade options on their menu: from sandwiches, wraps, pizza, chicken wings, and a variety of tasty sides and deserts. While I was there, I sampled the wings (which they offered a few different sauces for, as well as veggies and dip to snack on), their chicken wrap and the house fries. I enjoyed what I ordered, and I must say their fries were amongst some of the best I’ve ever eaten! In a way they remind me of chicken fingers in fry form, with a delectably crunchy outside and creamy inside that just melts on the tastebuds with each bite.  I suggest giving them a try, you won’t regret it.

Besides offering a worthwhile dining experience while catching a flick, they offer both in-house brewed staple beers and seasonal options. I’m not much of a beer connoisseur myself, but I’m certain visitors would be happy with the opportunity to sample a few of their brews to pair with their meal, or just enhance their viewing experience.  They also carry a few non-beer liquor options for those that are not beer-inclined.

Flix offers a variety of different options for various types of events. They have family-friendly viewings (with some baby-friendly options) available every month. Also, from big office sized to smaller personal gatherings—Flix has the space to accommodate from a group of less than twenty to as many as 800.  They also host a variety of different brewery events as well.

I would also like to note that they have discounted $5.25 viewings on Wednesdays.

The service staff were very amenable and helpful, and the premises was fairly clean. Overall, I recommend stopping in to check Flix Brewhouse out for a movie or two.
