Take a trip back in time, drop in at Stalzy’s Deli

Tiffany Jones, Staff Writer

Tucked away on Atwood Avenue, Stalzy’s Deli is a local favorite among Madison’s east side. They’ve been cranking out awesome sandwiches to local Madisonians since 2011.

Stalzy’s takes you a step back in time to a classic New York style deli filled with hand crafted chalkboards, an impressive beer selection, throwback candy, and sweets you’d expect to see freshly baked on your grandmothers counter. Baking their own bread and smoking their own meats; it’s no wonder they’ve been voted best sandwich in Madison.

Going for lunch or dinner? I suggest the Ruben or The Racheal.

The Rueben is a sandwich jam packed full of corned beef or pastrami (your choice), swiss cheese, house made sauerkraut, Russian dressing, all piled in between two slices of freshly baked rye bread. This sandwich is a classic “melt in your mouth” category all-star.

The Rachel- This sandwich was voted “Best Sandwich in Madison” and with good reason. Stacked high atop rye bread is your choice of pastrami or turkey pastrami, Swiss cheese, creamy coleslaw, and Russian dressing. Fresh ingredients are evident in this well rounded, quick to be conquered sandwich.

Not in the mood for a sandwich? They serve breakfast all day. Yes, you read that correctly. All Day! And I do have to say, their Challah French Toast? It does NOT disappoint.

It’s simple. Just go. These sandwiches are transcendent.
