On Nov. 9, Jeff Rosenstock performed at a free event at the Sett, the venue located inside Union South. Also performing were the San Jose pop-punk duo Hard Girls, and Katie Ellen, a low-fi band fronted by Anika Pyle.

The concert took place the day after the election, making it a tense time for the bands and the attendees alike; some very concerned, and others personally affected. As a preemptive measure in light changes the new administration may enact, the bands donated merchandise proceeds to Planned Parenthood.

Together the bands raised almost $400. Their hope is to help keep reproductive health services safe and affordable. Each band put in a word about the election news as well, with an especially invigorated speech from Pyle about the need to be a positive, compassionate person in every way you can.

Politics aside, the bands were quite successful in rocking the Sett in their own ways. Katie Ellen started the night off on a mellow note with their lo-fi rock. Hard Girls was a suitable follow up, building the energy with some faster paced pop punk. As per usual, the headliner was the highlight of the show.

A former member of Bomb the Music Industry! Rosenstock is no stranger to playing an exhilarating punk show. The room appeared to have a life of its own, with most of the crowd either jumping or moshing (and both the opening acts in the pit with the audience!).

To top it off, there was lots of crowd interaction. Through Rosenstock’s whole set, fans were belting along to his songs, including a full-blown sing-along during “Nausea.” Ending the show on a high note, Jeff brought his guitar and mic stand into the crowd with him, providing fans with a memorable final moment of the show.
