Destiny’s ‘Rise of Iron’ a worthy expansion of game’s storyline

Guardians, it’s time once again to gear up and fight the Fallen. The release of Destiny’s latest expansion, “Rise of Iron,” was on Sept. 20 and it is promising to be worth its weight in strange coins.

After the initial server crashes at the release, the expansion has been met with mixed reactions. If players are looking for a long campaign, they may be disappointed to find that most people were able to run through the story in a little more than two hours. I would have to say that it was a little disappointing to see how quick the storyline ended, but I think we forget this is an expansion, not a sequel.

Keeping that in mind, the amount of new content in this expansion is enough to keep players excited for a second game, yet frustrated enough to want the sequel now. Once the sparkle of new environments wears off, we start to see that it’s the same thing we’ve been seeing for the past two years.

Not that the game is void of fun. New armor and weapons to acquire will keep the gun nuts content. There are new quests that open up after the storyline, which could be great to some and mean more grinding for others.

Depending on how you play, this expansion can be hit or miss. For players who enjoy the multiplayer portion, there is more to offer. There is a new 3-player strike and a brand new 6-player raid available. New maps for the Crucible will add life to the player vs. player modes.

“Rise of Iron” offers plenty of new gameplay if the player remembers it is just an expansion. It is meant to keep the player interested in Destiny until the sequel is released. They succeeded in doing that this time around. Rumors are the sequel will be released late 2017.

Will “Rise of Iron” be able to keep everyone satisfied until then? Probably not. But it’s interesting enough to bring old players back in, and current players content. Game critics have made their complaints. While some of those complaints are valid, players are not as concerned with the issues. The new content is fun, and there’re enough new areas and modes for the game to give us a good time.
