A magical return for Harry Potter

Brighid Monihan, Staff Writer

Do we rejoice over the new installment to the Harry Potter series or do we grovel in fear and hope a writer who isn’t J.K. Rowling doesn’t ruin it.  The new book, will be released on July 31 and will be followed by a release of the play.

Harry Potter was a childhood favorite for many elementary and middle school kids and has continued to be a favorite with kids and adults today. The seven book series is full of magic and supernatural elements that have inspired colleges to start Quiddich teams and comic conventions throughout the world.

The fantasy land of Harry Potter teaches kids that it is OK to be different and how to face your fears even though they are probably not evil wizards who control snakes.  The adventures of Harry and his friends spark imagination and creativity in the minds of the children who read them.

This unexpected addition to the seven book series takes place 19 years after the final book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”  This installment will be co-written by JK Rowling and two other authors, Jack Thorn and John Tiffany. Although Harry Potter’s original author will not write the book herself, she will have some input, which should put some fans of the original books’ at ease.

The new book will be about Harry as a father dealing with his own son’s future and the troubles of being a parent. Little is being released about the upcoming book but like the newest Star Wars there is sure to be a divide among fans, those who favor the “don’t mess with a classic” idea and those who are excited for another addition to their favorite series.
