Yaaaaawn. With midterms fully upon the student body, burning the candle at both ends can leave you exhausted during the day. Sometimes, a nap is just what you need in the three hour break between classes, when the 20-minute commute doesn’t usually seem worth the drive home.

I went on a hunt to determine the best and worst sleeping spots at Truax. Wolfie, Madison College Mascot and one of the few remaining grey wolves in Wisconsin, was willing to assist with the quest.

2nd Floor Ingenuity Wing
Wolfie found this to be one of the softer spots on campus. The benches are wide and don’t have a back to them, so they were also great to lie on.  The carpeted hallway dampens noise.  Sensitive ears won’t pick up too much noise from passerby’s. Wolfie did admit a possible downside though; people can see you from within the workshop.

3rd floor D wing outside stairwell
Wolfie felt ambivalent toward this location as well. The door to the stairs is loud when it swings shut. Wolfie was abruptly ripped from a dream when it slammed near his ears one day. Now he will never know if he won first place at the Full Moon Howling Contest. Other than that, this is a quiet area, with low traffic.  It is nice to be cubbied by two walls and a window; it gives a good sense of privacy.

2nd floor administrative office hallway, near the C wing
This is a great spot for snagging a snooze between classes, it’s right in the center of the building. Traffic is low here and the carpet keeps things quiet.  Wolfie’s snores startled several studying students.

Gateway atrium couch
If you just need to lay down and warm up after a cold walk in from the back of the parking lot, this spot is perfect. However, there are a few concerns. During the day, there is a lot of noise from people coming and going. The couch is ok in terms of softness, but not long enough to fit on comfortably with long furry legs.  No sense of privacy at all, Wolfie felt the hard stare of students midday. Outside of peak times however, this is good sleepy spot for when you’re waiting for a ride, or early for class.
