Big wins boost WolfPack women’s basketball

The Madison College women’s basketball team has won two straight games to improve its record to 5-3 overall.

The first game of their two game win streak was a 93-66 victory against the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets.

This marked the highest scoring game for the WolfPack this year, and the third largest winning point margin.

Madison College had four players with double digits in scoring.  Leading the way was Taylor Strand, who came off the bench to contribute 20 points. Jenna Endres was another huge bench player, scoring 14 points, and was one rebound shy of a double-double.

Taylor Neilson, the team’s season leading scorer with 15.3 per game, was second in scoring with 18 points.  Neilson, though, led the team in assists, with five, and steals, with seven.

The WolfPack scored 57 points in the first half of play, shooting 63 percent from the field and an astonishing 55 percent from long-range.

“We hit the first couple shots of the game and everyone started rolling off of that,” coach Jessica Pelzel said. “People coming off the bench just continued what we were doing with the starters. There was no drop-off, no matter who I put in.”

The team continued that game’s success in the next game and defeated Western Technical College Cavaliers, 69-33.

Although the WolfPack had only had two players with 10 or more points, they outscored the Cavs 33-3 in bench points.

The team looks to be coming together nicely, which couldn’t have come at a better time, since they’re heading into the heart of the regular season.  Maintaining their recent play throughout the regular season will bode well for their hopes to have any post-season success.
