A shutout victory helped the Madison College women’s soccer team rebound from its first loss of the season. Three days after a loss to Rock Valley College, the WolfPack responded with a 3-0 victory over Harry S. Truman College on Sept. 20.
Madison College held its opponent to just one shot on goal, and goalie Kaelyn Welch posted her fourth shutout of the season.
Reese Brekke led the way for Madison College, scoring twice in the match. Her first goal came just 1 minute and 4 seconds into the match off a pass from Suzy Hinds Cruz.
The next goal came from Ava Schmidt about five minutes into the second half. Alyssa Moore had the assist on the play. Brekke’s final goal came with 15 minutes left to play and secured the win for the WolfPack.
Madison College stands at 5-1-1 overall. The WolfPack now has four straight home matches, starting with Triton College on Sept. 24.

Rock Valley College 7, Madison College 0
It took just five seconds for Rock Valley College to score its first goal of the match against Madison College on Sept. 17. The Golden Eagles scored three more goals in the next 13 minutes on their way to a 7-0 victory over the WolfPack.
The loss was the first of the season for Madison College. Rock Valley, now 8-0 overall, was ranked No. 12 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, the highest ranked team in Region 4.
Madison College 3, College of Lake County 0
Visiting Madison College posted its third-straight shutout and fourth-straight victory by beating the College of Lake County, 3-0, on Sept. 13.
After a scoreless first 30 minutes, Madison College scored twice in the 31st minute with goals from Reese Brekke and Finley LaFlash. Madelyn Marquette got the assist on Brekke’s goal, while Suzy Hinds Cruz got the assist on LaFlash’s goal.
The final goal of the match was scored by Zoey Lovejoy.
Madison College 2, Kankakee Community College 0
A strong defensive effort and goals by Suzy Hinds Cruze and Reese Brekke lifted Madison College to a 2-0 victory over visiting Kankakee Community College on Sept. 10.
Hinds Cruz scored eight minutes into the match, off a pass from Emlyn Knutson. The next goal came early in the second half, when Brekke’s attempt to pass the ball to a teammate deflected off a defender and into the net.
Madison College 8, Oakton College 0
Emlyn Knutson scored five goals to lead Madison College to an 8-0 victory over host Oakton College on Sept. 6. Knutson, a freshman, became the fourth player in program history to score five or more goals in a match.
The other goals for the WolfPack came from Suzy Hinds Cruz, Finley LaFlash and Chloe Voung, who also had two assists. The match ended in the 70th minute in accordance with the NJCAA’s new eight-goal mercy rule.
