The Madison College baseball team wrapped up its 2025 season by making a record-setting seventh consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series, where it finished in fifth place in the tournament.
Madison College finished 2-2 in the World Series tournament, losing to Iowa Central Community College, 10-8, in the elimination game on May 28 despite taking an 8-4 lead in the top of the fifth inning.
The WolfPack opened the World Series with a 7-6 victory over Lackawanna College in the first round and a 9-1 win over Heartland Community College in the second round. Madison College then fell to top-seeded Pasco-Hernando Community College, 10-3, before facing Iowa Central in the elimination round.
With the season-ending loss, Madison College wrapped up the year with a 45-11 overall record. The team made its 19th national tournament appearance and won its 24th regional title.
Several players earned post-season accolades for their performance during the year, led by outfielder Marcelino Edison Alonso.
Alonso was a first-team selection on the College Sports Communicators 2025 Academic All-America College Division At-Large Team. He was a second-team honoree in baseball for the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports-Scholar Award.
In addition, Alonso earned First Team All-Region 4, Region 4 Tournament Most Valuable Player and was named to the Region 4 Rawlings Gold Glove Team.
He led the WolfPack with 65 hits, nine home runs, 57 runs scored and 14 stolen bases. Alonso will continue his academic and athletic career this coming year at Indiana State University.
Three of his teammates, freshman pitcher Noah Marschke, sophomore infielder Jalen Gellings and freshman pitcher Alex Donaldson also earned Region 4 honors. Marschke and Gellings were both named First Team All-Region 4, while Donaldson was named to the Region 4 Rallings Gold Glove Team.
Marschke posted an 8-1 pitching record and posted a 2.29 ERA in 12 starts. He struck out 89 batters, ranking second in all of Region 4.
Gellings had the top batting average for the WolfPack in 2025, with a batting average of .360 while playing shortstop. He was second on the team in hits with 58 and had 51 runs scored, while driving in 29 runs.
Donaldson, a right-handed pitcher, finished the year with a record of 6-0, with an ERA of 1.84 and 34 strikeouts in 12 appearances.
