Recovery Corner – Communities of individuals

Patrick Kempfer, Opinion Editor

Who knows what one could achieve in a lifetime? With all the hullabaloo surrounding me and you, and sure, it’s true, there’s no telling time its business, ‘cause it’s nobody’s business but yours and mine, but are we content to conceal our contempt every time we pass by a passersby without looking eye to eye, never offering a hello, and surely not one effing goodbye? I say, why? Why can’t I? I am wise, and smart, within reason. I’m not teasin’, I really think we should reinvest in baseball as our national pastime.

Here’s the reason. Guns. Guns got us stupid. Guns got us too quick with the backtalk, ya know, when people start talkin’ slick. Guns got us all confused, and scared, especially when dared to even imagine what might have happened if Hitler had had his way, we’d all be throwing our hands one way, wishin’ we’d only caught on sooner. Before we started hitting that snoozer. But it’s not all out to wash! Hell NO, it’s not! There’s still plenty that can be saved.

Why? Why, just this mornin’, my buddy, Dave, asked me to help get his day started. And that’s where it’s at. In that tap, tap, tap, to get on that friends back, to help them out, because we’re a community, and not just single entities.

So move on, steady but fast, beautiful human, because we’re all just movin along, but none of us knows for just how long. So, so long!
