The Madison College Portage Regional Campus is located 35 miles north of the Madison College Truax Campus. Students can take general education courses or access student services at this location.
The Portage Campus is comprised of two locations, including the main campus located at 330 West Collins Street and the Portage Enterprise Center, which is the Advanced Manufacturing Base and hosts the Nursing Assistant Course.
The Portage Campus offers the Gas Metal Arc Welding Technical Diploma (GMAW). It is offered every semester and has seven credits. Students can then go on to the full Welding Technical Degree after they complete the GMAW Technical Diploma.
There are some great events coming to the Portage Campus. The Skilled Trades Showcase will be held on Wednesday, Sept.24, at the Portage Enterprise Center. They will be bringing in high school students and hosting a job fair. It is a free event, along with free food. They will feature all the trade and technology programs at Madison College.
The campus will host a Mini Manufacturing World Event, partnering with the Manufacturing Alliance of Columbia, Sauk and Marquette Counties. The event will offer a hands-on work day in a manufacturing simulation.
The sophomore class from Portage High School will complete the simulation. The students will be split into two teams. One team will work on the manufacturing floor building Legos, and the other team will work in specialty areas such as accounting, purchasing, marketing, safety and warehouse. Both teams will have a chance to complete the entire simulation.
In the past, they have worked with Wisconsin Dells High School and Poynette High School. Madison College Reedsburg Regional Location will also be participating in an event like this. They are working with Baraboo High School and Reedsburg High School.
Madison College Campus Service Manager Kallie Schultz said, “We are just there to support students even if students are not taking classes at the Portage Campus, but if they live in our area they can come and utilize the support services that we have at the campus anytime. We encourage them to do so.”
