Whether you’re joining Madison College for the first time or returning after a well-earned summer break, welcome to a new semester. Fall is always my favorite time on campus. There’s a sense of fresh energy, new ideas and plenty of possibilities ahead.
Our libraries are here to help you succeed and that means much more than just renting out books (though we have plenty of those, too!). We’re your go-to place for study spaces, technology support, research help and connecting with resources that make your semester smoother.
Did you know we have six campus libraries? Truax, Goodman South, Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg, and Watertown all have library spaces ready for you. You can use any of them, no matter where you take your classes. That means you’re welcome to drop in, borrow materials, get tech help or find a study spot at any location that’s convenient for you. Many resources and services are also available virtually.
This fall, you’ll notice some exciting changes and ongoing projects designed with you in mind:
- Space updates coming to Truax Library – Later this semester, we’ll be rolling out improvements to the Truax Library to make it even more welcoming and functional. Expect refreshed study areas, improved technology access and spaces that better support group collaboration and quiet study.
- Digital literacy in action – We know technology is a big part of your college experience and our team is committed to helping you navigate it confidently. Get help from our librarians on everything from helping you use research databases effectively to providing guidance on the responsible use of AI tools.
- Brightspace support – As Madison College transitions to Brightspace, our librarians and Student Technology Help team are ready to assist. If you have questions about using the new system, you can stop by in person, connect with us online, or call our help desk. We’ll help ensure technology isn’t what slows you down.
- Open Educational Resources (OER) – Textbooks can be expensive and we’re continuing our work with instructors to integrate OER — free, high-quality learning materials — into classes whenever possible. This effort helps reduce costs while still giving you access to the information you need.
- Student Technology Help Desk – Need to borrow a laptop? Having trouble with your Madison College account? Curious about how to use library printers or scanners? Our Student Technology Help Desk is here for that and more.
No matter if you’re tackling your first research paper, learning new software or just looking for a quiet place to focus, the Libraries and Student Technology Help team is here to be part of your success story.
Here’s to a great fall semester. Stop by and say hello at any of our six locations.
