Madison College Performing Arts and “Are We Delicious?” present “(Sc)Are We Delicious,” Halloween-themed vignettes written and performed by students. The shows open Oct. 23 and run through Nov. 1, with performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the Truax Studio Theater, Room A2031.
An ensemble of five Madison College students are writing, rehearsing and performing 10 original scenes under the direction of “Delicious” artistic director Stacey Garbarski.
Are We Delicious? is a Madison theatre troupe that has been creating devised theatre since 2012. The company uses a model that focuses on shared creativity and collaboration in a short amount of time. The Delicious “matrix” ensures writing, memorization and stage time are evenly disbursed among the cast.
“Delicious” shows rely on storytelling and chemistry more than technical elements. Simplicity is key with just a handful of props, costumes and set pieces. Foley-esque sound effects are provided by the cast.
When Performing Arts faculty advisor Karen Saari suggested a collaboration, Garbarski jumped at the opportunity. “I love what Madison College stands for. The chance to help students express themselves and build community in a creative space was too good to pass up. It’s exciting to help them bring their ideas to life on stage.”
Garbarski previously performed in the college’s production of Saari’s play “Bad In Bed (A Fairly Tale)” in 2023.
The cast of writer/actors includes students both experienced and new to Madison College stages. Kai DeRubis played the Emcee in the spring production of “Cabaret.” Jack Ramos performed in both “Cabaret” and “For the Love Of …” last year. New faces include Yuno Cho, Ella Edler and Sam Dean.
Student Xed Pharo is serving as stage manager, with Eden Tran as assistant stage manager.
The Studio Theater is a black box space inside the Madison College Truax campus, main building, 1701 Wright Street.
There are six performances between Oct. 23 and Nov. 1 (Thursdays 7:30 p.m.; Fridays 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays 2 p.m.) Tickets are $15 general admission, with $13 tickets for youth and seniors. All performances are free to Madison College students with their OneCard.
