With heart disease being the number one killer for Americans, World Heart Day is more important than ever. This global, multilingual celebration is meant to spark conversation on the little things you can do to keep your heart healthy.
Here at Madison College, students can celebrate by joining the Peer Health Educators in the Student Wellness Center and picking up a goodie bag of information. Flyers, healthy recipes, and stress balls are just some of the treats you can expect.
“The main goal of this event is to stop the world’s biggest killer,” said Angela Smith, one of the students coordinating the event. “It [will focus] on educating people on the signs and symptoms of cardiovascular disease and encouraging healthy lifestyles to prevent and control any heart-related ailments.”
Ashley Larsen, another student coordinator, said the event will be about providing the information others can’t access. “It’s important to bring awareness and let people know about this disease. [Students] can help themselves by learning more and making their lifestyles better.”
The event will be held on Wednesday, September 24, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by room 101 in the Health Building to see how easy it is to keep your heart as healthy as possible.
