As a 7.8/10 on IMDb, “F1” the movie was the thrilling movie of the summer of 2025. If you are a fan of F1, or just a fan of Brad Pitt, this movie is for everyone.
The movie was filmed for IMAX but seeing it in any format in the movie theater was the best way to see it. This is not just due to its cinematography but its audio as well. The audio made it feel as if you were truly at the racetrack watching the cars go around the track.
The soundtrack is also something to pay attention to in this movie. Songs from artists like Chris Stapleton, Tate McRae and Ed Sheeran are in this movie do not disappoint.
The story is about Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), the old school driver who raced in the 1990s and suffered a near fatal accident that left him out of formula one for over 30 years. Till his old teammate and friend, Reuben Cervantes (Javier Bardem) has recently bought an F1 team named APX GP, that is in a large amount of debt. Reuben needs help from Sonny Hayes, not as an investor but as a driver. Sonny as a driver for APX will have to be teammates with a young hot shot rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).
Directed by Joesph Kosinski, “F1” the movie is a lot like the other movies he has directed. This includes Top Gun Maverick. “F1” the movie uses a lot of the same cinematography techniques. He uses a lot of the same camera angles and audio techniques that he is known for. Joesph Kosinski was also able to film on real race weekends with a real Formula 2 car, changed to look like formula 1. Along with using real race footage from real race cars and then using special effects to make the real Formula 1 cars look like the fictional APX GP cars.
The start of the movie is fantastic, and Sonny serves as an incredible representation of a retired formula 1 driver.
The movie starts with him driving in IMSA at the world center of racing in Daytona Beach Racing in the 24 hours of Daytona. This is an exceptionally good place to start Sonny out, due to the many drivers who were on the F1 ladder that eventually make their way to sports car racing.
With many other things that are realistic, there are many things that Formula 1 fans will point to that are not the most realistic. Things like driving standards. What is and is not a penalty, and primarily would Sonny truly be allowed to be racing in Formula 1 after 30 years away from the sport due to rules and regulations.
This is just a sample of some of the things that I have been hearing about the unrealistic things that happen in this movie but if you suspend your disbelief and just watch it for what it is you can really enjoy it. For the casual fans of Formula 1 and the people who just went to watch the movie, it will be a very amazing experience.
I would recommend watching this movie in theaters or even at home. If you are a Formula 1 fan, then there are a lot of references in this movie that you will recognize. I believe that you can have a great time with this movie. I give it an 8.5/10.
