If you’re looking for something interesting to do in September, why not explore the heritage that makes our state of Wisconsin so great? Beer? Cheese? Oh Yes, please. For more than one hundred years, Monroe has held its Cheese Days festival on the town square. You just know with the word ‘Cheese’ in the title, it’s going to be an adventure.

On Sept. 16 through the 18 of this year, Monroe’s Cheese Days will be filled with cheese tastings, Polka music, and a Beer Garden. Vendors will be selling arts and crafts to celebrate the rich Swiss and German heritage surrounding the state of Wisconsin.

There will be many family friendly activities through the three-day festival. A carnival will be running on all three days, there will be multiple food vendors, and a parade that will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. On the schedule there are numerous dairy farm tours, cheese making demonstrations, and samplings of cheese from different Wisconsin based cheesemakers.

Visitors can also watch Sarah the Cheese Lady demonstrate her skills at sculpting, using cheese as her medium during the festival.

Minhas Brewery, a local to Monroe, will be offering tastings and tours at their brewery as well as their new distillery. A Beer Garden will also be open for the festival for all the people wishing to really get into the spirit of beer and cheese.

It is suggested to take advantage of their $1 shuttle service, as there is expected to be more than one hundred thousand visitors coming to the small town during Cheese Days.
Monroe, Wisconsin, is only about an hour south of Madison, so it’s a great day trip to explore such a big festival.
