‘For Honor’ a lasting quest for glory

I first heard of the video game “For Honor” while I was talking with my roommate about the trending games. Ubisoft, the French multinational video game developer and publisher, sure know how to attract viewers with a title that inspires war campaigns, intense battles, and strategic conquest of territory.

In collaboration with Jason Vandenberghe the creative director, Ubisoft promises a game that will immerse its players into a lasting quest for glory. “For Honor” is to be released on Feb. 14 on the PlayStation 4 (Ps4).

The game preview depicts three types of warriors fighting for the sake of fighting in an endless war. Each one of these warriors represents a different fighting style typically used in close-ranged combat.

Gamers can choose to become either a Viking, a Samurai, or a Knight. Once the choice is made, the game can be explored in detail.

The lighting technology is impressive, the graphics are meticulous, and the special effects are wonderful.

Gameplay requires as much attention as the visuals do. A warrior can adopt three different stances depending on which direction the player moves the controllers’ joystick. By pressing L2, your avatar lock onto an enemy. By adopting the same stance as your enemy, incoming attacks can be blocked, allowing openings for counterattacks.

The fighting mechanisms are adequate for one-one encounters but they are less effective against a greater number of enemies. Against too many enemies, the wiser decision is to work with allies in a multiplayer mode.

“For Honor” attempts to engage players by selecting opponents with a wide range of strengths and weaknesses, providing an atmostphere of unpredictability. My only advice to all gamers is to get ready for a special experience.
