Student art show moved to fall

The Yahara Journal Student Art Show is a student-led and organized showing of art from Madison College students.

Miles Roth, a member of the Yahara Journal, described the show as a way to “celebrate the creativity of students and their engagement with art.”

This event has been held annually to display artwork ranging from ceramics and jewelry, to paintings and drawings. The art show will be held in the Truax Campus Gallery from Nov. 4 through Nov. 26.

The event is fast approaching, so any students who would like to have their artwork displayed need to submit their art pieces before Oct. 23 through the Student Life Office at Truax, Room B1260. Previously, the show was held in the spring, so students may not be aware of the approaching deadline.

Each student can submit up to three items to display. Any items submitted have to be ready to display, which means that they must be framed or mounted if they are going to be hanged. Items like jewelry, ceramics, sculptures etc. will be placed in cases for display.

Anyone who would like to submit their art, but still need to get it ready for display can attend the Art Mounting Workshop being held at the Print Lab in Room E1860. Yahara Journal staff will help you get your art ready for the show and provide students with free frames if they need them. The workshop will go from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 16

All art submitted to the show will be considered for publication in the Yahara Journal.

Yahara Journal staff, Madison College instructors and Truax gallery staff will review the pieces shown to award prizes for best in show. The best-of-show winner will receive $100, second place gets $50 and third place will get $25.
