PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE

Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we communicate our activities to the college community.  Here are some of our recent notable incidents:

On May 21, Officers along with the Madison Fire Department responded to a man down at a bus stop on Wright Street at the Truax campus.  Officers rendered aid until the patient was transported to a nearby hospital.

On June 12, Public Safety along with the Madison Fire Department responded to the Truax cafeteria for a man with heart attack symptoms. Officers rendered aid until the patient was transported to a nearby hospital.

On June 22, Public Safety took a report of a theft from Starbucks at the Truax campus of food related items as well as several college owned electronic devices. Some of several suspects have been identified; however, this incident is still under investigation.

On August 11 (and pictured above), Public Safety along with the Madison Police Department and Madison Fire Department to a vehicle on fire at the Truax campus on Anderson Street near Pearson Street. Public Safety assisted the MPD with traffic control and road closure as the vehicle quickly became fully engulfed in flames. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

Welcome back students and staff. Public safety is proud to announce we have two new full-time and two part-time Patrol Officers.  One of these officers, Andrew Ly, who is excited to have joined the WolfPack at Madison College.  Please say hello to these new faces when you see them on patrol.

With the new semester, we understand that transportation becomes a popular topic. For students who need a parking permit, they may obtain them at the Welcome Center.  Be ready to show your college ID or photo ID.  Staff may obtain their permits at the Public Safety office Rm B1240 at Truax.  The Madison College Truax Campus offers additional parking in our “overflow” lot off Straubel Street across from Lot K.

A few reminders about parking regulations: Parking along curbs or on the grass is NOT allowed anywhere on Madison College Campuses. Vehicles found in violation of the current College parking policy are subject to citation and/or towing at the owner’s expense without warning. Also, beginning this semester, unpaid fines may result in suspension of your vehicle registration.

Students who need a place to park to come inside the building and get their permit may park in any of the student parking lots while they come in to obtain one.

In addition to our Facebook page, we have a Twitter account. Be sure to follow @PublicSafetyMC to stay informed of what’s happening on your campus.
