Madison College Public Safety

Public Safety Officers respond to many calls for service and we communicate our activities to the college community. Here are some of the notable incidents from the past couple weeks.

On April 2, a student reported a threatening text message to the Public Safety Office that they received a week prior from another Madison College student. The complainant lost their phone and was unable to show Public Safety the message. The student was, however, able to identify the other student to the investigating Officer. The Officer was able to locate the other student involved and see the conversation between the two students on the subject’s cell phone. The investigating Officer did not find any statements that were threatening, and it was determined the complainant misinterpreted the messages before losing their phone.

Public Safety would like to remind students to report any harassment or discrimination experienced on Campus to Public Safety immediately. If you wish to file a complaint online, you can visit Madison College’s Concerns and Complaints webpage at https://madisoncollege.edu/concerns-complaints.

On April 7, Public Safety responded to the Truax Campus for a report of person who passed out. Officer’s responded to the scene and when they arrived, the patient was beginning to regain consciousness. The responding Officer’s discovered that the patient had given blood at a local hospital earlier in the day and was now feeling light headed. The patient initially refused Madison Paramedics to respond, but eventually decided to have them respond since her condition was not improving. Officer’s observed that the patient was very pale and began going in and out of consciousness. Officer’s on scene rendered aid and contacted Madison Paramedics to respond to their location. The patient was evaluated by paramedics and eventually transported to the hospital.

Coffee with Public Safety has been scheduled! Please join us in the Traux Gateway on Wednesday, May 2, for a hot cup of coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and your choice of delicious cookies a week before finals! This is great opportunity for students and staff to meet the Public Safety team and ask them questions or just get to know them a little bit better. This event will also be held at the Downtown Campus for the first time ever on Thursday, May 3, so please stop by and say hello.

If you have any information regarding suspicious activity or other campus safety concerns, please contact our department at 608-245-2222; Public Safety Officers are available 24/7. Be safe.
