Domestic Abuse Awareness Month

In 2011, Obama proclaimed that October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month. According to the UW-Madison web site, Madison has been a leader in providing services for survivors. A community-based response has proven effective, utilizing sources such as the legal, education, and religious organization communities to help survivors. Some of those organizations are: Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS), End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin, United Way, Centro Hispano and UNIDOS Against Domestic Violence.

If you’d like to support the efforts, DAIS is hosting these following events in October:

Wednesday, Oct. 18, 5:30 p.m. – DAIS Donation Drive Happy Hour at LJ’s Sports Tavern Grill, 8 North Pater, Madison.

Thursday, Oct. 19, 6 p.m. Seventh Annual Dress for DAIS Fashion Show, Overture Center for the Arts.

Also, the University of Wisconsin student organization Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment will hold a (Un)Healthy Relationship Workshop Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
