Massage clinic offers healthy way to relax

Natalie Connors, Editor in Chief

A relaxed body promotes a relaxed mind. With mid semester already here, we have certainly entered the speedy, often stressful, roll into the end of the school year. One healthy way to relax is through an experienced massage.

The college’s Therapeutic Massage Clinic began accepting online appointments for student practitioner massages March 1.

According to information provided by the school, massage stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, this creates a calming and relaxed state. It also releases mood-elevating hormones like endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, which play key roles in mental health conditions such as depression. It also helps promote body circulation, flexibility and pain relief.

Getting a massage at school is not only convenient, the clinic, located on Hoffman Street, on the Truax campus is affordable as well. Students with their OneCard pay $25 for a one-hour massage. Alumni pay $30 and community members can still get a low price of $35. Other local salons price their services around $70 or more for an hour-long massage.
The clinic also provides information on what to expect when getting a massage.

Madison College students are trained in Swedish massage and trigger point therapy. The technique uses kneading, friction, pressure and percussive movements to improve blood flow and bring in a relaxed state of balanced well-being. According to the brochure, “Massage is good for you, and feels absolutely wonderful.”

But walking in, it’s good to know what will go on. The practitioner will leave the room while the client undresses to their comfort level. Massage is typically performed with an undressed client, with modest draping over the areas that are not actively being worked.

Finding a parking spot won’t add stress before your appointment. Parking for scheduled massages is available right outside the Health Education Building in the gated area.

Appointments can be scheduled over the phone by calling 608-258-2367 or online at madisoncollege.edu/massage-clinic.
