Donut shop’s theme park atmosphere worth a visit

Hurts Donut Company, in Middleton, has a huge following. And, thanks to the space on Parmenter Street that had several now defunct restaurants, you can enjoy your donut(s) and strong coffee in the upstairs dining room.

Because of talk around town, I wasn’t sure I’d get a donut one Saturday as I drove there. However, I decided I was not going to be deterred and was wondering what the fuss is all about.

If you see an emergency truck out in the parking lot as you approach, it’s not because someone had too many donuts and was soon to expire, but it’s a delivery truck for when you’re stuck with a donut craving that you can’t escape and need rescuing.

Luckily the lines weren’t too bad for a Saturday, it was after lunch, and the perfect time for a snack.

An unusual sign greets you at the door with donut names such as “pick your nose” and “lick the frosting off the floor.”

The theme park-like store has a multitude of donuts on display, and frankly, you just can’t walk out with just one. I’d like to see you try.

Anyway, the donuts are $2 each, and lathered with tons of toppings.

As I bit into one I realize it’s all a bit of a hype, because I’ve tasted better donuts. But the whole experience is so much fun, I’d say don’t miss it.
